Keeping it Simple: Focusing on the Subject
When this happily engaged couple flew in from Ontario for their engagement photos, I wanted to ensure that every detail reflected their unique connection. The location was carefully chosen to provide a simple, clean backdrop, allowing the focus to remain on their relationship and the happiness they radiate together—and of course provide a subtle hint of the beautiful ring now on the missus’ hand!
Positioning the Subjects
I knew that the key to a successful engagement photoshoot was the positioning of its subjects and capturing a genuine moment while keeping the ring in frame. I was also concerned about keeping the subjects relaxed during the shoot so they wouldn’t be conscious of getting their pictures taken.
To achieve this, I guided the couple through a variety of candid and posed moments—gentle hand-holding, playful laughter, and close embraces. I explained my process as we transitioned through poses, keeping in mind the positioning of the ring to ensure it was facing the camera. Each pose was designed to keep their love at the forefront while naturally showcasing the ring as a symbol of their commitment.
Post Production: Stylistic Themes and Colour Palette
When editing the photos, I chose three distinct colour tones to bring out different aspects of their love story:
- Timeless Black & White
- Nostalgic Vintage Brown
- Natural True-to-Colour
This gave the client a variety of photos to choose from.
Keeping the Outcome In Mind
These photos were carefully crafted to not only announce their exciting news but also to serve as cherished elements of their wedding journey.
The images became a key part of their wedding invitations, setting the tone for their special day with a mix of heartfelt, elegant, and timeless visuals. Additionally, they were featured on their wedding website, giving their guests a glimpse into the love story behind the celebration.
It was such an honour to photograph these two as they begin the next chapter in their lives and share this milestone with friends and family. Congratulations to the happy couple!
